Difficulty reading and concentrating…ADD?

Recently, I had problems concentrating – when I try to read text, for example, I have trouble absorbing the information – I understand and comprehend every word that I read, but when I read, all that is happening is I am seeing text, but not actually absorbing the information – I have difficulty understanding what I am reading. It became very difficult for me to read, or to concentrate on a single though. It became very difficult to do anything that requires focus and attention. The biggest problem, of course, is the reading problem… I like learning, and reading, but how can I learn anything from books if I don’t understand what I’m reading, but just seeing text, as if the text is in another language, even though it’s not.
The reason I’m quite frustrated with this situation is the fact that I didn’t always have this problem. This problem started recently, only a few weeks ago, and I have no clue what the cause is. I think it may be from some supplements I purchased – they are from the Swiss Herbal company…although I stopped using these supplements, this problem persists.
What can I do to increase my concentration?..should I purchase Ritalin, or some other nootropics? Do I need doctor’s approval to do so?
Clarification: I’ve seen some answers, and it does not seem to me that I have a neurological disorder, however, I do have some concentration problem, which I seem to have developed recently – I did not have concentration problems in my childhood, and when I was in school I had high academic standards (I was probably in the top 5% of the whole school in terms of academic performance)…if this is not a neurological disorder, what could this recent lack of concentration be?

Ritalin?
Why would you willingly injest poisonous toxic chemical prescription drugs.?
Would you stick your hands on live electrical wires, or jump in the lake on a frigid day?
Same thing, Ritalin, all psychiatric drugs are the same as a chemical brain lobotomy.
And those poisonous toxic chemical prescription drugs prescribed by witch doctor psychiatrists posing as doctors always induce negative side effects, and cure nothing.
I have adhd. I had the same problem you are having. I take adderall and it helps, but it doesnt work as good as it used to. You need to have a doc tor diagnose you and write you a prescription.
I’ve got AD/HD and I could relate well to what you wrote about lack of concentration, but the rest simply doesn’t add up.
ADD is a neurological condition that you’re either born with or your not. At around age two it was evident in my case, and I’ve been this way as long as I can remember. This has to be true to get a diagnosis, and it states that you must have had the symptoms since 7 at the latest. Usually a doctor would check old school reports, and ask your parents how you were, when they’re evaluating you.
You also said how you like reading but have trouble absorbing the information now. If you had ADD then you’d be brilliant at absorbing the information you’re interested in. This is how it works, if you have ADD, you hyperfocus on what interests you, but unfortunately the rest is a complete struggle. You simply can’t choose to focus like everybody else, no matter how important the task is. Many people with ADD excell in their field of interest, and they all have trouble prioritising things and lack self control, in many situations. They’re often late, work too long, or too little, miss appointments, or forget important things because they’re absorbed in something else.
I think that you’re just going to have to deal with what’s stressing you out to be honest, weather it’s school, getting treated unfairly, or that you need to come clean about something. There’s lots of things that cause poor concentration, and ADD is just one of them. Depression, and or anxiety cause concentration difficulties by the way.
